OUGD502 - Taking Care of Business - Print Studio Rentals

To work out the rough budget for our new studio we wanted to try and find a place that had more or less all of the equipment we need for traditional printing methods such as screen printing, lino printing and mono printing. I was tasked with finding some of these studios that were near to Leeds and if it was possible to have a combined studio with macs and a print area.

West Yorkshire Print Workshop

We have two Kippax screen beds with vacuum facility and there is a large UV bed for exposing screens and a screen wash room with pressure washer and large sink. We also have a large drying rack for work. Different sized screens are available for use by members on a chargeable daily basis and members are also welcome to provide their own screens. There is ample storage space for all screens and members can also store their inks and work/paper.

Prices are very reasonable and start at just £5.25 per square metre per calendar month, with additional small charges for facilities such as sinks.

However, because this studio is in Mirfield and not in Leeds we would have to take travel costs into consideration.

Hot Bed Press Printmaker's Studio

Studios are 24 hour access. Prices average at £85 a month and range in size and dimensions to the largest studio which costs £105 a month. All bills are included in the rent. We insure studios for fire and theft, although we also recommend tenants take out their own insurance. The first floor and the second floor are both alarmed and secure.
To express an interest in renting a studio at Hot Bed Press please email Andy Magee at info@hotbedpress.org and you will be added to the list. Studios are allocated on a first come basis. The initial payment for a studio is one months rent plus a deposit of one month which is refundable on termination of the contract. A key deposit of £20 is also required (Also refundable at the end of your contract)
Once again these studios aren't in Leeds - they are in Salford - so we would have to travel there in order to use them. This means that we would limit the time that we spend in the print studios therefore not getting the value for money.
